Random Beauty… A Few of My Favourite Things

As it’s organic week, and around 95% of my toiletries and cosmetics are totally organic, I thought it would be a good time to share some of my favourites and essentials with you!

OrganicWEEK2

Before I show you the contents of my cupboard, I just want to give you a few good reasons for switching to organic when it comes to your toiletries and cosmetics.

1) Non-organic chemicals ingredients in many products can lead to allergies in babies, children and those with sensitive skin.

2) Many products on the shelf are full of synthetic chemicals – some of which have been enhanced to penetrate the skin, letting everything else through too. Whilst many products contain only small amounts, these can add up inside the body. Parabens have been found in the breast tissue of those with cancer, for example. It’s also thought in some cases that parabens can disrupt hormones.

3) Organic farming is much better for the environment, as synthetic pesticides and chemical fertilisers are restricted, and therefore do not contaminate the soil and water table.

OrganicWeek

So, if you want to make one small change and convert just one of your current beauty products to an organic one, here are some of my favourite brands to give you some ideas.

Green People

OrganicWeek3

Definitely one of my favourites, and with three products in this photo alone! I don’t leave the house without the Rosemary Deodorant pictured. I’m not ashamed to admit, I’m prone to a fair bit of perspiration and this is the best for keeping me dry all day. I travel on the tube most days, and I’m very pleased that this keeps me from being one of those smelly armpit people!

Also a lifesaver from Green People is the Aloe Vera Styling Gel. It has a very light hold, so it’s great for taming that bit of flyaway frizz. It also doubles as a leave in conditioner and it definitely doesn’t weigh your hair down.

And if you’re looking for a pencil eyeliner, which is very soft and easy to apply (without feeling like you’re going to stab a hole through your eyelid), go for Green People. Soft, smooth and gorgeous. I love the grey at the moment, as it’s bold but subtle at the same time. Perfect for all occasions.

Heavenly Organics

An absolutely beautiful brand, with an independent and loving owner, whose desire to have only organic, natural and vegan skincare led her to create her own hand-made products. Everything is made with as few ingredients as possible, as is really as close to nature as you can get in many ways.

OrganicWeek4

This wonderful ‘Just Add Water’ Shampoo will change the way you think about washing your hair! So simple, and so easy for when you are travelling. That’s one less bottle of liquid. And it really is easy to use. Just mix with a bit of water and massage into your hair. It has a strange, grainy texture and it doesn’t foam up, but don’t let that put you off. Foam doesn’t mean clean! The proof is in the results, and I had clean and shiny hair the first time I used it.

Another wonderful product from Heavenly Organics, and perfect if you suffer from sore feet, is the Lavender and Tea Tree Foot Balm. Just rub into your feet – I found I only needed a tiny bit and it went a  long way. It’s so refreshing. The zing of tea-tree and the calming smell of lavender. It will definitely help you soothe away a long day on your feet.

Neal’s Yard

A very well established and respect brand in the world skincare, aromatherapy and remedies, Neal’s Yard are one of my all time favourites. They also have the most gorgeous packaging – just love those blue glass bottles.

OrganicWeek5

The product in the image is the Orange Flower Toner. Known to be healing and regenerating, this is the perfect facial skincare product. And it’s oh so refreshing, not to mention it smells delightful! The Soothing Starflower Moisturiser is another favourite of mine – it’s perfect for sensitive skin, as it contains liquorice and aloe vera to cool and soothe. It’s also really light and I’ve found it’s great under make-up, even for someone with combination skin that can get greasy during the day.

Lavera

OrganicWeek6

A wonder-brand in my eyes, I can’t live without the Cleansing Milk from Lavera (pictured in my first image). It’s smooth and really gentle. It’s one of the few cleansers that can be used on both the face and eyes, so it saves having two bottles. It never irritates my skin and it never makes my eye-lids sore when I use it to remove my eye make up on a daily basis.

The hand cream is creamy and lush. It sinks into the hands almost instantly and it provides relief from sore, chapped hands. I always have it in my handbag, especially during winter.

Organic Surge

OrganicWeek7

Last, but most definitely not least, I couldn’t go without mentioning the fun and funky Organic Surge. They have gorgeous scented shower gels, shampoos and conditioners, plus really rich and divine moisturisers.

My favourite cream at the moment is sheer luxury from the Super-Intensive Daily Moisturiser. I use it at night to replenish everything lost from daily exposure to the elements and make-up removal. And at the moment it’s half price – bargain!

I’ve enjoyed sharing some of my favourite products with you for Organic Week, and I’ll definitely be featuring more in the future. I hope you’ve enjoyed reading about it too and perhaps decided on a new product to try out.

Have a wonderful week!
