If you’re looking for delicious vegan cakes, bakes and sweet treats, look no further than the wonderful, independently run 1066 Cake Stand in Hastings. I’ve never been to the store itself, but this hasn’t stopped me indulging in yummy goodness from the vegan and gluten free kitchen (one of their two kitchens is entirely gluten free – how amazing is that)!
And there’s more! What? How can there possibly be more than a vegan cake store/bakery filled with vegan treats, chocolates and more, that has a second, entirely gluten free kitchen? Well, Shelley and Kevin are just lovely people and are also a social enterprise, reinvesting at least 50% of their profits into social aims and committing to exceptionally high ethical standards (recycling, no environmental impact and supporting local enterprise). Their admirable mission statement is below:
“To promote and provide fairly priced allergy friendly, vegan foods to our local community and beyond”.
I had the pleasure to have a chat with Shelley at the London Vegan Festival a couple of months ago, and left with a couple of scrummy lemon meringues (vegan and gluten free of course) and some sherbet dips.
The meringue was as scrummy as it looks – moist, yet crumbly pastry, rich lemon curd and a gorgeous meringue – we’ve both missed meringue so much since becoming vegan, and this ticked all of our boxes!
The sherbet was oh so sweet – you need a sweet tooth for this one, and several attempts at finishing the lot. Here’s a tip for you – don’t try and shove the entire lolly in your mouth at once, like my hubby did, just take it easy!
And of course, Shelley was very excited to tell me about the launch of the brand new Cake Club – a club based entirely on cake, who wouldn’t be excited?!
Every month, you can get freshly baked cake sent straight to your door. Sounds good? Well for just £12, it’s a bargain too. I’ll be following up this post with a review of one of the boxes. I’ll make sure to take some pictures very quickly, before the cake disappears! In the meantime, you can sign up by clicking here!
Thanks for reading, have a wonderful Wednesday!
