Random Fun Stuff… Book Benches of London!

During the Summer, there were some wonderful pieces of art displayed around London. Amazing benches in the shape and decor of some of our most loved books, brought to us by Books about Town. We were lucky to find lots of them down the road from us, in Greenwich!

For those of you who missed them, there is some amazing news! Before they are being sold at auction (to raise money for the National Literacy Trust), they are being displayed one more time, this weekend (4th and 5th October 2014) in Gordon Square Garden WC1 – yes, all 51 of the beauties in one place! What an amazing opportunity! Although finding them was part of the fun!

We loved walking around Greenwich, finding them hiding in the park or along the side of the Thames, and discovering our favourite literary delights, celebrated in bench form for all to see. It was lovely to meet fellow book/bench nerds along the way, and share our findings and favourites.

So, I’d like to share with you some the benches we found along the Greenwich Trail and tell you that they are truly wonderful, and if you haven’t seen any of them, go to Gordon Square Gardens this weekend and see these truly gorgeous works of art. If you’re feeling lucky, you can try and nab yourself one in the auctions.

I’ve saved one of my favourites from the Greenwich Trail for last! Who couldn’t love a Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy themed bench?

Aren’t they just the most beautiful pieces of art? Don’t forget, this weekend really will be your last chance to see all 51 gorgeous benches in one place. And if you fancy your luck, the proceeds from the sale of each one of these goes to a great cause, the National Literacy Trust!

Have a wonderful Tuesday and keep reading!
