Random Make-Up… Alva Organic Foundation Powder

Having combination/oily skin, I’ve always found foundation a bit of a challenge. It’s often too powdery and clumps up in little patches on my skin, or it’s a creamy/greasy slide around as oils build up throughout the day. It’s also great to be able to take my make-up out with me, and not make a complete mess when applying it in public.

I was therefore very excited when I came across the Alva Organic Baked Foundation Powder on the MyPure website. A lovely compact of pressed powder, which ticked all of my boxes in the description alone; organic, free from nasty chemicals, cruelty free and vegan.

As you can see, it comes in a lovely cardboard compact with a sponge, and an elastic fastening. Perfectly recyclable and not bulked out with lots of fancy plastic. There’s no mirror, so you’ll need to have one in your bag if you’re out and about.

There are two shades – light and medium. I have what everyone likes to call ‘milk bottle’ skin, so I went for the light one and it’s just perfect for me. I found it really easy to apply with the sponge provided, and it provided a lovely even coverage, with just the right tone for my skin. It blended in nicely with no streaks, patches or foundation lines. And there was no mess!

I found that it has a lovely pearly sheen when applied to the skin – don’t worry, it doesn’t look like you’ve been attacked with a glitter ball, but it gives a little bit of texture and extra finish I think. I really like it and it’s only very subtle.

I found the coverage level just right for me, as long as I’m wearing some concealer underneath. If you want absolute 100% thick coverage, with no skin showing at all, you’ll probably need a cream or liquid foundation, but I find this just right for a natural, but evened out look.  It covered my blemishes, uneven skin and spots well, and lasted throughout the day at work, so I’m sold!

What makes this foundation extra special, is that it’s blended with macadamia nut oil and evening primrose oil. Macadamia Nut Oil is great for dry and mature skin, but at the same time is not greasy, and helps to reduce irritation in sensitive skin, due to the phytosterols it contains.

Fatty acids in the Evening Primrose Oil may help to reduce pore clogging, as well as inflammation, making this foundation good for anyone who suffers from acne or rosacea.

After several days of wear, I’m a convert. I can see an improvement in spot outbreaks and my skin doesn’t seem to be getting clogged with wearing make-up all day. I feel like my skin can breathe.

Have you tried any of the Alva range before? I’d definitely be interested in suggestions for what to try next!

Thanks for reading. Have a wonderful day!
