Welcome to the first day of my Ethical Advent Calendar. Please follow to see what’s revealed each day this month. It’s going to be an exciting mix of delicious festive food and drink, gift ideas and eco-friendly tips.
What better way to start my Ethical Advent Calendar than with a chocolate post. After all, for any of us with an advent calendar, we’ve probably had a piece already this morning, and there has already been snow in parts of the UK, so it’s definitely a hot chocolate kind of evening.
Aduna are a social business, working with and sourcing directly from small producers in rural Africa, creating a range of super-foods, including this gorgeous Super-Cacao from West Africa.
Aduna ensure that workers are paid fairly, and are provided with sustainable income streams, as well as having a safe and respectful working environment and being provided with education. This makes a huge difference to rural communities.
Aduna only works with cacao suppliers who can actively demonstrate their commitment to ethical, social and environmentally responsible sustainability practices.
And here is the proof of the delightfully rich and creamy hot chocolate produced by the high quality raw cacao.
As with all good quality cacao, there’s no sugar added and no refining to produce cocoa. This will produce a nice healthy hot chocolate, and I made mine using the recipe below:
Super Cinnamon Hot Chocolate
4 teaspoons Aduna Super-Cacao Powder
1 cup Koko Coconut Milk
3 teaspoons Date Syrup
Dash of Vanilla Extract
Start heating the milk over a moderate heat, and then stir in the cacao powder, syrup and cinnamon powder.
Stir until simmering, add a dash of vanilla and serve.
This fabulous hot chocolate, filled with magnesium and potassium, will nourish your body and your mind.
Treat yourself, or pick up a pot for a loved one this Christmas. It makes the perfect ethical stocking filler.
