We all know that a super eco-conscious way to reduce the carbon footprint and environmental impact of clothing is to shop second hand. Charity shop hunting is both fun, great for any budget and saves good clothes finding their way to landfill. What I don’t see catching on, however – for obvious reasons – is second hand underwear shopping! And eco-friendly, ethically traded underwear can quite often attract a high price tag – understandably so, but not always budget friendly.
Jojoe is a new, contemporary lifestyle brand which concentrates on a eco conscious approach, by encouraging people to make small changes in their lifestyles to result in a bigger, collective impact. The brand uses only recycled materials and fabrics in both the products and packaging, including bonded seams and printed care labels to minimise waste and maximise comfort. The great thing about this is that their products are generally more affordable and accessible to a wider range of budgets.
With a duo-pack of briefs starting from £11, and two bras for £21, they are not as cheap as some brands, but they are certainly one of the most affordable ethical brands I’ve come across. Manufacturers are SEDEX approved – meaning our production process remains ethical and environmental throughout. So, whilst a bra may still be cheaper in Primark, for example, you can rest assured that there is no unethical labour involved here. JoJoe also offer a generous 15% student discount – which I think is another tick in the affordability box – it’s so hard to find ethical underwear for tighter budgets, so this is a fantastic win in my eyes.
So many products go to landfill each year, ending the garments life at disposal. JoJoe do not want to ever see their products in landfill which is why all they make everything from a recycled microfibre material which are also recyclable. The only thing to bear in mind with microfibre, is that it can shed microplastics in the wash – so if you can afford to invest in a Guppy Bag, that’s even better.
I’ve been trying out the Frankie Bra & Briefs set – pictured above – over the last few months, and I absolutely love them. I’m used to wearing cotton, so I did find the shiny, silky feel rather unusual, but they are super comfortable, light and breathable. There are no seams or labels to rub the skin – and that is a huge bonus. They are really high quality and wash really well – and as a bundle will cost just £20.
All packaging is made from recycled materials – including the pouches, which are recycled, recyclable and reusable – homing everything from lippies to lose change – I also think they are perfect for hand-luggage liquids when travelling via plane.
JoJoe only work with couriers who also focus on their commitment to the environment and are actively looking for sustainable solutions to their procedures.
By creating products that last, JoJoe are reducing the number of garments that go to landfill from fast fashion. If everyone can just make a small change today, together we can make collective differences for a better tomorrow. Respect the earth around us, buy eco.
Thank you so much for reading. I hope you love JoJoe as much as I do.
